“Where there is a woman, there is magic.”
So said the playwright and poet Ntozake Shange, and our team at Think Rubix is inclined to agree. Black women, in particular, bring a special kind of magic to a country that wasn’t built for them to thrive in. In spite of that unjust reality, Black women have continued to be the trailblazers, the leaders, the entrepreneurs, the givers, and the heart and soul of our society. So many do this work without the acknowledgement or gratitude that they are owed, and at Think Rubix, we’re firm believers in taking the time to stop — to uplift, to appreciate, and to celebrate — the women who shape our world.
Last week, the Women’s Foundation of Arkansas held its annual Power of the Purse luncheon, an event honoring three Arkansas women for their extraordinary contributions to the Natural State in philanthropy, business, and service. For the first time ever (but certainly not the last), all three honorees were Black women. some of whom are near and dear to the hearts of our team members. So of course, we couldn’t let the day come and go without holding a special toast to this momentous occasion and the three following incredible women:
- Woman of the Year in Philanthropy — Beverly Morrow
- Woman of the Year in Business — Tamika Edwards, Special Advisor to the CEO on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Engagement, Central Arkansas Water
- Arkansas First Lady’s Woman in Public Service — Dr. Jerrilyn Jones, MD, MPH, Assistant Professor, Department of Emergency Medicine, UAMS
These three extraordinary women represent the best that Arkansas has to offer. They inspire us. They challenge us to do better, to be better. They uplift us, and they remind us of the immense power that women hold to create a brighter future for us all.
But far too often, women, especially Black women, face colossal hurdles to seeing their dreams come to life. At Think Rubix, we’re invested in a future that unlocks the power of each and every woman to realize their full potential, and we’ve got countless ideas on how to achieve that. Sound interesting?
